The best part: All of these features work even when you aren’t connected to the internet, because you’re not relying on a cloud server to handle any of the transcribing or search. I could see this feature being even more crucial for students who need to crib for tests. Sometimes I don’t remember which interviewee mentioned a particular topic, and I’d rather not listen to each file to jog my memory. The audio and written transcripts are both searchable in Recorder, which is also incredibly useful.
The transcription eliminated hours of work, and I was able to start writing immediately. But the words themselves were incredibly accurate. I also had to add some punctuation to break up run-on sentences.
Recorder picks up every “um” and “you know” that I would have omitted if I had transcribed it myself, and doesn’t always insert paragraph breaks where they should go (when someone else starts speaking, for instance). Afterward, I emailed the M4A file to myself and then listened to the interview to check the audio against the transcript.
